The Tale of my Favorite Dress -- A Love Letter

Lord knows I've blogged and tweeted about my beloved Rachel Pally, but let me now tell you about my favorite dress.

This is my Rachel Pally White Label Maxi Dress. I'm sure the style has a name but I cannot recall what it is.

I love this dress. This is the most comfortable thing I own.

I believe this dress retailed for $298. But I got it for much, much less at one of Rachel Pally's amazing Sample Sales. I mean, they're epic. She opens up her warehouse and you just cannot believe the goodies on sale at a discount. I even got this dress in another color. A BRIGHT color. I loved it so much I wore SALMON, you guys. 

To this day, I do not know what happened to the other dress, though. I went to put it on one day and it was gone. I haven't a clue where I left it, who took it or what fairy flew off with it. The thing is gone. Leaving me with the one dress in black. 

The poor thing, it is worn out. It is a bit stretched out in the shoulder straps and the elastic is kind of fraying out of the fabric across the top of the dress. But I don't care. I love my Rachel Pally White Label Maxi Dress. I wear it. I wear it to the office. I don't care.

One of the reasons I love Rachel Pally is that not only does she, a fashion designer, make a line for plus sized women. She makes items that are not grandma attire and her clothes are SO comfortable, you could die. I also own two pairs of RP WL pants. I sleep in them. They were probably $600 (I'm exaggerating) but I got them cheap at the sample sale and much like my dress, the most comfortable things to ever touch my skin. So I sleep in them. I lounge around in them a lot, too, but I love to sleep in them.

It's like having a crush on a boy but a dress and pants. 

Anyway, I felt obligated, as I put my dress back on the hanger tonight, to write a loving tribute to it and also thank Rachel Pally. It is not often someone like me gets to wear designer clothes. In fact it's next-to-never. Not just because of price but because of size. And she makes it happpen. It's magical.

Flashback Four Years

This blog has been around for over six years now, having survived my many whims and design experiments. 

Four years ago, I added this feature:

It seemed like a weird thing to do, actually. Creating a Facebook page for my blog was even more self-serving than having the blog itself. It was asking people to be a fan of.... well, ME. It was further inviting strangers to follow me at a way more intimate level than this site or Twitter. 

It also sort of served, to me, as an indication that this blog was more of a business than a personal endeavor and I was really hesitant to make that destinction.

That's how it felt in my mind.

But it's sort of a necessary "evil" if you have a blog these days. It's one of those things you just do. And to be fair, according to my Google Analytics, a fair amount of my traffic comes from Facebook and that's the goal in the end, right? Whether I am reviwwing a product or just being a snarky bitch, the goal is for people to read it. Don't fool yourselves, bloggers. Bloggers blog for themselves for sure, but they also blog for an audience. It may start off as a catharsis but we're on the world wide web here. 

And I'm not saying that's a bad thing, to be clear. Perhaps one of the best things about the internet is that it affords the average person the opportunity to be famous. Even if only in a small circle or for 15 minutes. It provides possibility and potential to everyone. 

And by the way, if you haven't liked me on Facebook yet, I'm so close to 400 fans, I can taste it, so do me a solid, would ya? (Hey, I may as well get that ask in while I'm at it, right?)

What's Up, Friday?

I love the internet. You know, some weeks, the internet is a veritable buffet of wonder and amazement. A never ending supply of genius, I tell you.

1. Some really fantastic hacks, tricks and shotrtcuts for Google Chrome and the internet in general from Buzzfeed and Thought Catalog. I am working on memorizing them. For example, did you know that in Chrome, if you accidentally close a tab and then hit CTRL+SHIFT+T, it'll come right back? MAGIC I TELL YOU! 

2. This clock. It simultaneously fascinates me and creeps me out.

Quote of the Day

And Today in A Studio City Parking Lot...

I made a stop on my way home from work, parked the car and this was going on:

I watched them from inside of my car at first. She got out of one, he got out of another. They did not seem to know each other. She climbed up on that stop sign post and he stood by his car, both with camera phones at the ready. 

I looked to where they were aimed. It was... the sky.

Everyone who knows me well knows that I do not suffer from shyness most of the time and that sometimes, I can be downright intrusive. In instances like this, for example, when I will never see these people again and surely don't care what they think of me, I feel like I owe it to myself and the world to find out what is going on.

So I asked what they were photographing. He said "the sky is so pretty right now. I had to instagram it."

Her: "When I saw him taking a picture, I thought something was happening so I stopped, too."

Like what? An alien invasion? It's sky, people.

Sigh

I mean... the sky was lovely, but it wasn't anything different.... Blue sky, a few clouds, a faintly setting sun (sunset wasn't really underway yet)... Yeah, all the working parts. No idea why it was Instagram worthy.

Of course, I posted the picture of them on Instagram, but I like to think the moment I captured was far more interesting than theirs. 

I'm taking this way too seriously. I know. I just found it all so silly. I couldn't resist posting about it for entertainment's sake.

Also, the fact that the woman stopped to take a picture purely because he did? Stoppit. Just stoppit.

 

Quote of the Day

"Shoe me, shoe me, put laces through me..."

Ok, that title is a pretty obscure reference to a Guys & Dolls song I enjoy called "Sue me" so I'll forgive you if you don't get it right away. ;) 

But anyway, the SoCal Lady Bloggers issued a call for action, challenging its members to post about their shoes. I mean, I love shoes, so I could hardly resist. 

My collection as a whole is in no condition to be photographed. I have half my shoes in stacked, labeled boxes, most of the rest in a giant pile on the floor, and a couple of the pairs I wear the most by my bed. My shoes are a mess right now. In fact, I should probably let this post motivate me to get rid of the shoes I never wear anymore.

BUT WHAT IF THEY COME BACK IN STYLE?! OMIGOD I CANNOT GET RID OF THE PURPLE PUMPS FROM NINE WEST THAT I BOUGHT IN 2004!!!! 

I love shoes. My shoe board on Pinterest is a lot of fun to look at if you're antsy.

It's possible that my Doc Martens are my all-time favorites, though. These have been with me since about age 12. And look how totally awesome they still look. These are some original Docs, baby. Not those post-airwair purchased rebranded Docs. These are my wanna-be-a-goth-kid 8-holes. 

I did have a pair of air-wairs, though. I also had some brown ones, a pair of saddle-shoe styled ones and some greenish ones. 

I feel about these shoes as I do about my teddy bear. They have been with me for a long time and in a way, they comfort me. 

And when I retrieved them from my closet at my parents' house, I wore them around the apartment for a couple hours, washing the dishes or just watching TV. I am not ashamed. People certainly wear more absurd slippers than a pair of Docs!
