I'm exhausted. I know I tell you that a lot but I swear it's true every time. I can feel it in my BONES, people. My bones!
Luckily, this weekend I'm house and dog-sitting for a fluffy ball of love and I plan to get lots of cuddles and naps in.
I got a decent night's sleep last night, though. The week is winding down and there's even a three-day weekend ahead of me. Not a bad thing to be faced with, right? What's everyone doing this weekend?
And in other news....
1. The Golden Globes aired this past Sunday and I think Tina Fey and Amy Poehler should just host everything always forever. But my favorite thing about the night was found among the post-party photos. When I saw this photo of Michael Fassbender and Benedict Cumberbatch dancing (?!?!), I basically squealed, fainted, woke up, and changed my pants.
P.S. Emma Thompson is my spirit animal.
2. Are you ready for the most heartbreakingly poignant and touching commercial from... AXE BODY SPRAY?! What the.... Yeah. They did this. It's amazing. Watch it. It's - dare I say - beautiful.
3. If you weren't an Ally McBeal fan like me, you may not realize Robert Downey Jr. can sing. (I even own one of his albums. It's true.) And so this video took me back and DAMN. He's GREAT. I am naturally awaiting the announcement of the inevitable album "Ironman Sings the Blues." Enjoy and you're welcome.
P.S. RDJ was also awesome and hilarious at The Golden Globes.
4. I cannot remember how I found it but I found it. This poem by Charles Bukowski entitled "so you want to be a writer" leaves me breathless.
5. I'm gonna get deep with you here for a second. Let's talk a little bit about Net Neutrality. Net Neutrality needs a publicist. Why is no one talking about this? It should be on every news show, every political talker... I'm amazed.
Net neutrality is dead per the recent verdict of the U.S. Court of Appeals for D.C., striking down a FCC order from 2010 that forced Internet service providers (ISPs) like Verizon, AT&T, Comcast and Time Warner Cable to abide by the principles of network neutrality. What is that? It means ISP network management must be transparent, and that ISPs can't engage in practices that block, stifle or discriminate against (lawful) websites or traffic types on the Internet.
Still confused? I'll put it to you like this. With net neutrality gone, ISPs can discriminate. They can favor their business partners while delaying or blocking websites they don't like. I'm on Time Warner's Road Runner at home. That means if they wanted to, they could block Netflix and force me to use their streaming on demand service. That means Verizon Fios oar AT&T UVerse could screw you. If you're with Verizon, they could make any of AT&T's sites upload slowly, if at all. This also means, if they want, they can charge you fees for visiting certain sites. Are you a frequent visitor to Amazon.com? Maybe Comcats has a deal with one of their burgeoning competitors and won't let you go there. And imagine how this could hurt small businesses.
I don't know what we do to solve this problem but it's a big one. And it needs attention. Post about it on your blogs, Facebooks, Twitters, and so on. And just in case it matters, sign this petition.
6. Because I don't like to end my Friday posts on a serious note, PUPPIES!!!!
