The Expo's Greatest Hits continue!
This one was definitely the most unusual food product I sampled. Because lentils. Stay with me - we're going on an Asian adventure.
ZOUQ snacks are a South-Asian inspired, exotic, healthy snack alternative in four different flavors. They are all vegan, dairy-free, gluten-free, cholesterol-free and MSG free.
They're not free to buy but they're totally reasonable -- about $4 a can or $1.49 for a pouch. And with multiple servings per can, you're getting a good bang for your buck there.
You've got the jubilee mix and curry crunch flavors here. Jubilee mix (right) has a little kick to it with peas, watermelon seeds, lentils and rice flakes in the mix. Think it sounds weird? It takes a little getting used to but then it gets super addicting. The curry crunch flavor revisits rice flakes and peas with peanuts, flour and turmeric powder. It's a got a really unique sweet and sour taste that I enjoyed.
Now I gotta warn you off those fiery devils on the left. They are appropriately named "fiery sticks" and they mean it. The little potato sticks are covered in Indian red chilies and mango powder. And I'm a wimp so basically, who wants my can of mouth-fire? But it's all good because I saved the best for last -- the golden lentils, on the right, are just perfect! They are savory Rice Krispies! (OMG, as I write that I'm wondering if I can make these into some kind of comparable Rice Krispie Treat type item....)
The next thing you need to do is check out their website. The product pages are clutch because they break it all down for you with ingredients, spice level, beverage accompaniment recommendations - really comprehensive and easy.
Only one thing left to do now, Zouqies -- GET SOME!
