G'day, everybody!
Have you heard of the delightful Damon Gameau?
More importantly, have you heard Damon Gameau?
That accent, though. RIGHT?!
His newest project looks compelling. The sassy, adorable Aussie stars in That Sugar Film, which he also directed and wrote. It's available now on demand and on iTunes -- it follows Damon on his own 60-day radical diet experiment to eat only foods perceived and/or marketed as healthy.
I'm not typically driven by this subject matter (I mean, just check out the name of my blog, right?) but I found myself pretty sucked in, due in no small part to Damon, of course. But I was thinking about all the Mountain Dew I consumed in college (a regrettable phase I went through my sophomore year) and am suddenly reminded of every restaurant salad I ever ate while "dieting." You know, those ginormous salads loaded with extra goodies, drenched with creamy dressing. Or the Jamba Juice that's supposed to be good for you but is actually loaded with calories and sugar. Perhaps eating a granola bar for breakfast on-the-go seems like a great idea in theory but remember all those chocolate covered Kudos bars we put away in the nineties? Those couldn't have been good for us, right?
That Sugar Film faces a timely issue that affects our entire eating culture. From speaking with kids who’ve teeth have completed rotten out due to extensive Mountain Dew consumption, to pouring white cane sugar all over his BBQ, Damon shares some shocking but still entertaining moments.
And frankly, the trailer is downright SEXY:
Don't you just wanna get lost in those baby blues?!
You'll see some additional familiar faces in the film like Isabel Lucas and Stephen Fry. It succeeds at being both informative and fun viewing! Highly recommend it -- especially if you have children. You'll find even more ways to watch here. Keep up with Damon on Twitter, here.
