Love your Curves and All Your Edges

A little junk in the trunk doesn't mean you can't ROCK the crap out of a swimsuit, ladies, and I'm loving this campaign from Swimsuits for All. (A big thanks to my friend Jen for sharing!

And why not? Can anyone claim these four women aren't beautiful and happy and deserving? I've seen some comments on stories covering this that are pretty hurtful -- it breaks my heart. Let's allow these girls to shine. Let's set an example. Beautiful comes in far more diverse colors, sizes and ranges. It's a big worl out there, a big marketplace, there's room for everybody in it and I'm really proud of Swimsuits for All for doing something so bold -- that shouldn't even have to be considered "bold" at all.

All the Right Curves

You've probably heard of Curves. You know, the gym for ladies only. The machines in a circle. You rotate through them all a few times. Poof! Workout accomplished. Genius invention. I've been a member in the past and had a little bit of the sads when our local closed down. 

Now, Curves has announced the introduction of an exclusive line of workout wear that I happen to know is functional, flattering and comfortable.  And it's available now! The new line includes 20 new pieces designed for performance and includes such features such as breathable material, tops and jackets with longer backs, "stay put" waistbands, comfortable compression and slimming designs.  Order the crossover tummy control pants. They're a total win and on sale right now. (I'm wearing them right now while I type this. Trust me on this. I've been living in these pants. They're high-waisted with a little control-top that never folds over, and the fabric is great.. JUST GET THE PANTS. You're welcome.)

Moving Plus Size Fashion Forward - Looking at Eloquii Dresses

OMG, Eloquii is BACK! It's BACK and I am SO EXCITED! 

It was only a year ago that they were shuttering and now - BOOM! Back with fabulous fashion, updated looks... It's all glam over there. I'm so happy. (You're all "we get it, we get it, stop gushing...")

It's true I've been on a big dress kick lately, so as one of my faves returns, you know I had to go take a look. Eloquii is all about color right now and it's stunning. Lots of bold jewel tones and a terrific line of bright orange styles. My least favorite thing about plus size fashion is a design that forces you to sacrifice fashion for fit but that is just not the case with them. And I wanted to show you my current faves. 

 

I mentioned the orange so I thought I'd start with it. I always want to wear orange but I wear so much black that I've become convinced when I wear orange, I look like a Halloween mascot. Or worse, a pumpkin. But this is a really pretty shade  - very nearly coral. And I love the detail in the shoulders. It's only $88. 

Hello turquoise! Fabulous, right? The mix of textures and the structure of its panels make it so flattering. And they're still under $100 with this one. 

AAAAH! COLOR BLOCKING! LOVE! The flutter skirt! The panels! The tomboy feminimity of it... I can barely stop myself from hitting the "ADD TO BAG" button. It's $110. 

I saved the best for last. My most favorite thing about this dress is that the layout of the black stripes are in the absolute perfect places. They are going to distract the world from those spots you are the most insecure about. But I'm sure that's not why they're there -- I mean, it's stunning. Melissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, "Mike & Molly") clearly thought so as well; she wore a modifided version to a recent event. Oh! Also -- because I'm such a lover of wearing black, this is really a great way for someone like me to keep on wearing it but not without some contrast. It's $118 and I'm considering it as my birthday outfit this year. No joke.

Revisiting Dresses

You're never going to believe this, but I've found a new love for dresses. 

I mean, let's not carried away. I'm not about to bare my legs to the world. And you're welcome for that... Trust me, no one wants to see 'em. You would have to wear sunglasses to obstruct the glare off their pasty whiteness. 

But seriously, give me a cute little dress I can wear with tights? I'm good. (Oh, and it's gotta have sleeves. Or look cute with a cardigan.)

So I found myself revisiting my post about JJsHouse because they have so many options and ways to search... and I kind of have a birthday coming and want a new dress. :)

Right away I narrow with this because if I can find a dress with sleeves, all the better!

And I can also make my life a lot easier with this:

 

Still so many choices! 

After a bit of trial and error, sleeves and no sleeves (because again, I can always put on a cardigan), I came up with these as my leaders. Colors not withstanding because that's another place they have a ton of options!

5 Rules Of Plus Size Lingerie

It may have taken them years, but fashion designers have finally said goodbye to the Stone Age are now creating fashionable, sexy, and classy lingerie for plus size women. At last, plus size women can ditch their unflattering undergarments for sexy and elegant lingerie that fits as marvelously as it looks. However, if you’re a plus size woman, there are five rules you should follow when choosing plus size lingerie in order to select the right pieces for your body’s unique characteristics. 

1. Take Accurate Measurements of Your Waist, Hips, and Bust

It may seem obvious, but in order to select the right plus size lingerie for you, you must know your measurements. To measure your bust, wrap a measuring tape all the way around your bust at nipple level. Your natural waist, which is slightly above your belly button, is the slimmest part of your body. Your hip, on the other hand, is the fullest part of your body. Find these areas and take a couple measurements of each, using the highest ones.

2. Take Cues From Your Lovely and Unique Body

If you have a terrific bust line, choose a Grecian-wrapped bodice, v-necked teddy, or bustier. Lingerie with an empire waist will begin spilling down from right beneath your breasts, giving you a high-waisted look that camouflages a fuller tummy. Also, look for lingerie with good bra support, because higher breasts will not only help you stand straighter, but they will make you look younger as well. If you have a smaller waist and larger thighs, otherwise known as the much adored hourglass shape, then emphasize it with lingerie that features color patterns, ties, or bands at the waistline.

3. Know Your Shape

Some women have pear-shaped bodies with ample behinds and large thighs, while others have apple-shaped bodies with most of their weight focused in the middle of their figures or column-shaped bodies with small waists and hips. When you know the shape of your body, you can then learn the rules to accentuate your favorite features and minimize your least favorite. This is a key consideration when shopping for plus size lingerie.

4. Choose the Right Fabrics

Most plus size women, and women in general, become focused on color, cut, and little details when shopping for lingerie, which is well and good, but many forget to take the actual fabric material into consideration. That shiny satin, velour, or charmeuse lingerie item may catch your eye, but it also shows bumps. Jersey, on the other hand, will not. If you do go the classic route and choose a shiny material, make sure to choose a forgiving fabric.

5. Pick the Right Colors to Highlight Your Features

To showcase your body’s best features, you should choose lingerie that is light, patterned, or rich in color. Conversely, you should select romantic, dark hues of burgundy, black, or navy for your least favorite areas in order to discourage eye detail.

While there are now hundreds of plus size lingerie options for full-figured women everywhere, you’ll only be able to choose the right pieces if you know your body and what fabrics, styles, and shapes will highlight your body the best. By following these five plus size lingerie rules, you’ll be able to do just that and show off your plus size figure with confidence.

Prom Dress Fantasies

So I had a dream the other night about the high school prom. Probably because I'd watched Pretty in Pink and I'm still recovering from not getting to go to my prom with Andrew McCarthy.  

In my time volunteering with the youth group, I often chaperoned their annual formal - their version of prom. I was always amazed (and horrified) by the length of dresses. You've heard "knee length" and "tea length," etc. Theirs was a length I jokingly came to call "crotch length." I was the Vice Principal at your middle school. You remember him - he had a yardstick and was making sure your pants were resting at the waist. I was the jerk telling girls to tug their dresses down. 

Prom is elegant! It's a fairytale! It's not a nightclub or cocktail party. Call me old-fashioned. I just always associate the evening with fanciness and ball gowns. Princess dresses and tuxedos. 

And I was curious about what was trendy in prom dresses this year so I was looking at JenJenHouse, which I am a fan of because they have over 700 plus size dress options and extremely reasonable prices. I was happy to see gowns back in fashion! And that a lot of them were pretty stunning in fact.
