2013: The Year of Jimmy and Jimmy

Be ready for some awesome videos, y'all. I promise you this post will be an awesome time-suck but it's perfect for all your Friday procrastination needs. 

Across all of my "What's Up, Friday?" posts this year, you probably caught on that I'm a big fan of clever viral videos. And this year, no one kicked more ass in that area than Jimmy Kimmel and Jimmy Fallon.

I can't even decide who did it better. How do you choose between Kindergaten-style music remixes and the most epic Twerk prank ever? 

All I can do is share with you, fine readers, the best of their genius. When Fallon takes over the 11:35pm slot in 2014, I expect it to get even better. (Also, how pumped am I for him to host SNL this weekend with Justin Timberlake? You know that's going to me amazing.)

Does Being Social Online Keep us From Being Social in Person?

What is the connection between online social networks and being lonely? I don't think it's a secret I've been battling this one! And when I saw this video on a friend's Facebook page, I basically burst into tears and reached for the flask. 

Inspired and based on Sherry Turkle's book, Alone Together, as well as Dr. Yair Amichai-Hamburger's article, "The Invention of Being Lonely;" script, design and animation by Shimi Cohen.

What's Up, Friday?

It's been a long week and I've typed this introduction eight or nine times now but what it boils down to is this: I am tired. I've not been sleeping well and I'm exhausted. And it's starting to manifest itself as forgetfulness and being disorganized and frustration... One thing begets the next and ultimately, all roads lead to my being angry and hyper-sensitive. 

Come to me, weekend. I am ready.

And that said, he's what's up at the end of this week.

1. My blog entry on Monday about drunk bitches at concerts and proper concert etiquette was my most visited post to date and most visible Facebook post to date. That makes a gal feel good. I am so glad everyone liked it because I really enjoyed writing it.

2. If you do not watch The Colbert Report, you might have missed Tuesday night's AWESOME episode featuring the BEST Colbchella ever. Go watch it. If you do watch it and you've seen it, watch it again. It's hilarious.

P.S. After you watch that, watch this follow up bit from the following night.

3. Middle. School. Musicals. The Star Trek one was my first exposure to the YouTube Channel but I actually think the Man of Steel Middle School Musical is their best work.

4. Neiman Marcus has added plus sizes to their LastCall.com website and I did a little jig of glee to celebrate.

5. Ok, now call me crazy (go ahead - I'll wait).... But THIS VIDEO puts the BIGGEST SMILE on my face. I friggin' love this cat!

From 2011 -- this is still so relevant and I encourage you to watch it. Brittany Gibbons wants us to drastically change the way we think about women's bodies. Stripping down to her bathing suit onstage, she makes a passionate call for women of all body types to find confidence in each other.
